I am incredibly grateful for the amazing women I get to work with and support. Today I'm sharing Julie Thorn's story of how she learned to love herself AND overcame some major health issues over the course of our time working together.
Julies's Biggest Challenge
I could say I was eating like crap, not getting proper sleep, no time to myself, recurring yeast infections and rosacea. While all of those things were true, I would say one of my biggest challenges was my emotional state (stress, worry, you name it). It is linked to all of the above, one thing leads to another.
In the past two years, I have been through quite a bit emotionally. I was an emotional wreck inside, but I kept on smiling. I have always kept everything bottled up inside me which is not good. I have always been a people pleaser and felt like I was not worthy. I put everybody else first including people who do not have the right to be first in my life. After going through what I thought was ultimately going to kill me, my self-esteem was zilch. Everything started adding up. I just felt like I could not handle it anymore and I did not want to. Thankfully, I have been reborn.
Why she chose to work with me
I had no idea what a practitioner was until my hair stylist told me about Lydia. The universe had our paths cross and I am very, very grateful. Honestly, I did my first hair test out of curiosity. As I slowly started understanding the whole process, I wanted to learn more and more about ways to improve my health.
Her two BIGGEST take-away moments and how she specifically applied them
Love yourself!!!
Ultimately, if you do not take care of yourself, you will get rundown, you will get sick, you will only exist in your life and you will not really live to be your best self.
I now make sure to schedule me time. Whether it's journaling, a massage, a walk with the dog, meditation, yoga or the steam room. I also spend quality time with those who truly love me for who I am.
Also, I learned to stop listening to that negative inner voice and to just shut it off! I am a beautiful human who gets to be part of this beautiful world. Everyday is a great day!
I know there are going to be disappointments, griefs in life, but I can show gratitude.
As you know one of my dear friends recently passed, he put it best - “Of all the things I have created…knives, poetry, art…those things pale in comparison to feeling the sun on my face and drinking this chocolate milk with a friend.” He said this during his last hours on earth.
The universe ultimately gave me those last few hours with my friend to see the beautiful transition from this life to the next along with the affirmation of love, not just for another person, but for myself.
What my coaching program did for her health and life specifically
I have learned to listen to myself. As I break away from old habits (people pleasing, pent up emotions, feeling like I am not good enough, self-doubt, self-sabotage, etc.), I am re-discovering who I am and who I have always been. I love that person!
My emotional state is so much better which has had positive effects on my health in my personal life as well as my professional life.
My skin has cleared ( I had rosacea for at least 10 years). I handle everyday stresses much better. I use to fly off the handle at the least little thing, but not anymore.
I don’t stumble out of bed to make that first cup of coffee in the morning, my heart racing, albeit I am not completely awake. I no longer rely on caffeine (coffee and chocolate) to get me going and to keep me going. I no longer overeat out of pure boredom. I am more body conscious.
Also, I now truly believe people can change, we do not have to be the person we have always been, we do not have to be the ideas we have always believed in. Change is good, being stuck is not.
What fears did you feel before you took action in this way
People may believe that they are in such bad health that nothing will help them. Some patterns of human behavior are so deep-rooted and ingrained that people do not want to give something that will work a chance (fear of the unknown, not worthy, follow the mainstream, weird, etc.). Changes do not happen overnight, we give up too quickly. They would rather live the way they are living in whatever state that may be.
I was initially not comfortable in spending money on myself. I was brought up with a poverty mentality. I was taught to save your money never spend it. Where’s the fun in that!!
As I mentioned earlier, I did my first hair test out of curiosity. I have always had a natural curiosity all my life. I never dreamed that first hair test would lead me to where I am today.
Lydia you're my hero!
Thank you so much for the caring and time you put into your clients! I really appreciate you!
You are so right about too much head knowledge and not enough doing. I am guilty of some of that, but am slowly coming to the realization that I alone am responsible for this body and that I can't wait for my family or friends to start really caring before taking steps to heal my body and take care of it.
