How to Power-Up With The Most Balancing Mineral

In light of my goal to empower women to radically transform their lives and  reclaiming your personal power I have to share more about MINERALS. I believe minerals are magical! They create powerful transformation for your mind, body and overall health. They are the spark plugs of life. One of the most powerful and potent minerals is POTASSIUM.

Minerals are one of the most important things you need to put into your body EVERY SINGLE DAY for vibrant health.

Potassium plays a role in every heartbeat. A hundred thousand times a day, it helps trigger your heart to squeeze blood through your body. What do you suppose would happen if you were deficient in potassium?

Potassium is a key electrolyte mineral. Normal body function depends on tight regulation of potassium concentrations both inside and outside of cells. Most people today are not getting enough potassium in their diet.

In my video, I dove into a simple primer on how and why to get started with potassium. You can watch that by clicking the video player in the image above.

I discovered potassium back in 2014 when I had my first hair tissue mineral analysis done and saw that I was low in potassium, among other things. I had no idea some of the incredibly miserable health issues I was dealing with could be helped by potassium.

I was missing out on life due to many health issues directly connected to potassium deficiency (for one thing) such as; anxiety, brain fog, heart palpitations, constipation, bloating, carb intolerance, hypoglycemia and more.

I had really poor digestion and was pretty toxic, both of these things were slowing my body down making it harder to absorb my minerals. Over time as I balanced the whole picture of my health, thanks to my HTMA, I felt so much better. I made a connection to how drinking a potassium rich drink could lift me out of feeling wired and tired.

Now that I utilize mineral balancing and never go a day without potassium, my health and mood has stabilized in so many ways. Oh and all those health maladies I listed have minimized or disappeared entirely.

Potassium Is A Powerful Anti-Anxiety Mineral

Potassium is one of the most important minerals which conduct electrical signals through nerves. A deficiency of it can result in confusion, mental fatigue, and even psychosis. The reasons for it’s deficiency are vast, but the top two are lack of it in the body (due to deficient soil or adequate amounts in the diet) and heavy metals that cause potassium loss.

I’ve personally found that many women with a low potassium pattern via HTMA struggle with that, wired but tired feeling. Brain fog, mental confusion, depression even but also irritable and anxious. Those paired together feel incredibly frustrating. I’ve been there.

Potassium is necessary for cognitive functions and learning processes. I can still remember how embarrassed I felt for my ‘stuck in pea soup’ mental function back when I had my first HTMA done. I would look at a simple sentence or number I needed to remember and then forget instantly and have to read it several times. I literally felt 'dumb' and I knew I wasn't. Add the overwhelm to the slow cognition and you feel like a crazy train wreck. The struggle is real.

Potassium facilitates ensuring your brain’s ability to properly utilize serotonin, your feel good neurotransmitter. Potassium is required to activate neurons involved in positive thoughts and feelings. Without the electrical charge sparked by potassium, neurotransmitters like serotonin cannot be utilized to make us feel better. This may explain why even a slight decrease in potassium levels can result in significant feelings of anxiety.

Low potassium related symptoms are common in burnout, adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism. Minerals, such as potassium can go a long way to bringing back some mental stability, energy as well as calming the body enough to shift out of feeling so wired and overwhelmed.

There is a mineral burnout that occurs due to long term stress, lack of minerals in the diet that overtime leads to a full body mental decline. I shared in my post about the magic of magnesium more of the same, you can read that here. You'll want to start with magnesium anyway, as it is 'the master mineral' and an important co-factor for potassium.

I’m so grateful to minerals for saving my life and helping me to heal. I’m also grateful to them because they helped me to better deal with my emotions and mindset. Sometimes we need a little boost from nutrition to be able to more fully do or embrace the deep inner healing work.

Please always keep in mind, no single mineral works all on it’s own. There can be many reasons why potassium gets depleted in the body that are far too complex for the purposes of this post. I just want to share about how much this one little mineral could impact you for the better as well as how to consume more of it.

I hope you will take some time to listen to the recorded lesson I shared above. If you do, here are a few resources I mentioned in the training.

First, you can find the Nuun electrolyte tablets I mentioned right HERE. You will get trace amounts of your macro minerals which can help supplement your dietary intake. I feel very good about recommending some basic electrolyte minerals to everyone. Since minerals are hard to come by in our food due to soil depletion (and even in our water) it’s a good idea to purposefully consume them.

Some people like to use cream of tartar in drinks or smoothies. Just 1 teaspoon contains over 400 milligrams. I can't tell you how much of it to use without knowing more about your whole mineral picture, BUT that amount daily is relatively safe and helpful for most people.

*Quick Disclaimer: Always check with your medical doctor first if you have any health conditions/diseases they are treating, especially if you are on any medications.

So many foods are rich in potassium, mostly veggies. Beet greens are one of the highest, with over 1300 mg per cup of cooked greens. Eating a diet loaded with real foods and a variety of vegetables will go a long way to getting more potassium into your body to benefit from. Yet another reason to eat your greens and your veggies. Bananas are not the only source like most people seem to think.

Good food sources of potassium:

  • Beans (black eyed peas, lima beans, white beans)
  • Dark leafy greens (beet greens, swiss chard, spinach_
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Beets
  • Apricots
  • Winter squashes (such as acorn, butternut)
  • Yogurt
  • Avocados
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Coconut
  • Bananas
  • Citrus fruits
  • Potatoes (preferably with the skin)
  • Raisins
  • Dates
  • Prunes
  • Carrots (carrot juice is particularly high, so is celery juice)

Some potassium will leach out of veggies when they are cooked. It's best to cook them in liquid that you will also consume and not discard. I like to cook my veggies in soups and stews if I'm cooking them in liquid, since I'll also consume the broth.

Also, of the list of foods I recommended (in the video I shared WAY more, plus amounts), I recommend you try consuming 2-3 per meal. The other day when I was eating my lunch, I asked Alexa how much potassium was in each item in my salad. That was a fun way to get a feel for how much potassium I was consuming. You could probably ask Siri or Google home as well,if you care to try this.

Potassium doesn't work alone, no mineral does, just keep that in mind. It's co-factors include, magnesium (as I've already mentioned), vitamin A, vitamin C and E, b complex vitamins and zinc to name the main ones. So when you think about this in the grand scheme of things, running out to supplement with a bunch of potassium just because I told you how much you need daily is not always the best solution. Keep it simple with whole foods until you know more about your own mineral picture through an HTMA.

I've worked with hundreds of clients to support their health, EVERYONE needs potassium (remember the RDA is 4700 mg) and finds it to give them some pretty immediate benefits. I am sure you will too!
