How my health crash actually saved my life

Note: You can listen to this blog post over on my podcast HERE

Ever since I was in high school I had a longing to do work that mattered to me. Something related to health & wellness, but not a conventional path.

I started exploring and experimenting when I was 19. Supplements, herbs, whole foods, probiotics, minerals, became a vegetarian for a couple years, studied reflexology on my own thinking I might take a training, learned how to do a liver flush, dabbled on and off with gardening.

The event that finally pushed me into my purpose, was my traumatic split from my ex and my health crashing hard from it. It took me a full year to get my health out of the toilet and even then I was barely surviving, taking care of 4 young kids on my own.

After selling our joint home and securing my own place with the boys, I took it upon myself to pursue my dream of becoming a holistic health practitioner.

That year as I was picking myself up and putting myself back together, I did GOBS of...

How To Absolutely Protect Your Health This Spring

Heading into this spring of 2020, there is a lot going on in the world that may cause a bit of concern as to how to protect your health.

As a mom of four boys and a nutritional therapist, health educator I've spent the past several weeks beefing up our normal health regime. I am taking personal responsibility to do everything I can to make sure my body is healthy. It's no one else's job other than my own.

Now more than ever is a great time to create a lifestyle that deeply supports your health. In this post I am going to share some of my top insights so you can be proactive instead of reactive.  No fear, just facts so you can make responsible calm decisions to support your health.

Personally, I have a long term health history of respiratory/sinus health issues, as well as am a recovered asthmatic and recovering from long term mold exposure. I still can struggle with being able to breathe at full capacity. So, in light  of the spring allergy season and the corona virus, both...

Do What Makes You Feel Inspired, Happy, and Alive

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

I am betting as a woman you've likely struggled with an internal battle where you've felt 'stuck'. You have felt that you aren't where you'd like to be in your life journey (according to you). Maybe you're currently stuck doing soul sucking work in a body plagued with burn out (which comes with a myriad of annoying symptoms), totally unable to perform your job effectively.  In addition to being able to be a fully supportive friend, partner or parent. Maybe you even wish you could quit your job, because it doesn't feed your soul and instead you'd rather just focus on what does make you feel inspired.

How To Relieve Chronic Stress So You Feel Fantastic

*Listen on the podcast: How to relieve chronic stress so you feel fantastic

I've shared my story, here on the blog in numerous posts, about how unrelenting chronic stress in my life nearly took me down. It got so bad, I ended up in total burnout and experienced PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).  PTSD is a psychological and emotional stress disorder that causes someone to believe that they are unable to cope with the demands placed on their inner world. It is a negative perception of highly stressful or traumatic situations that manifests itself through emotional and physical symptoms.

I'm hear to share more about how chronic stress can be overcome before it's too late. Truth be told, this applies to everyone, whether your circumstances were as intense as mine or not.

That said, I am seeing more and more women, especially single moms struggle with the severity of stress induced to PTSD. In fact, 7 million people in the United States suffer from PTSD.

Unmanaged stress is at...

You Need To Know How To Put Your Health First

Over the years I've worked with a lot of women to help unravel their health concerns. One of the biggest things I've noticed is that it's really hard for women to put themselves and their health first. And I'm on a mission to shift that paradigm.

Your health is your greatest asset and gift. It's no one else's job to take care of your physical health. Only you can do that. Sure other people can encourage you, but no one can do it for you.

I learned the hard way and didn't put my health first for a long time as an adult. I wasn't really modeled how. I grew up on processed food just like you probably did. Once I finally learned better, I to make the choice to do better. So when my health finally did come crashing down, I finally took heed and started putting my health first.

I hope I can help others not wait that long. You can do so much NOW to prevent your health from crashing, but only if you put your health first. Stop making it a backburner priority and put it on the front burner....

How to Power-Up With The Most Balancing Mineral

In light of my goal to empower women to radically transform their lives and  reclaiming your personal power I have to share more about MINERALS. I believe minerals are magical! They create powerful transformation for your mind, body and overall health. They are the spark plugs of life. One of the most powerful and potent minerals is POTASSIUM.

Minerals are one of the most important things you need to put into your body EVERY SINGLE DAY for vibrant health.

Potassium plays a role in every heartbeat. A hundred thousand times a day, it helps trigger your heart to squeeze blood through your body. What do you suppose would happen if you were deficient in potassium?

Potassium is a key electrolyte mineral. Normal body function depends on tight regulation of potassium concentrations both inside and outside of cells. Most people today are not getting enough potassium in their diet.

In my video, I dove into a simple primer on how and why to get started with potassium. You can watch that...

Lack of Joy? How to Revive Your Passion

Passion, what lights you up currently? When you are passionate you allow yourself to explore your desires and to go towards the things that make you feel joyful.

I am all about fully enjoying my life these days, I didn’t used to. I used to lack joy. In fact, I was so apathetic and fearful that I used to just spend hours fantasizing about life, instead of actually living it. There’s a long history there that stems from trauma and abuse that caused me to not feel safe. This created a lot of blocks in my entire being as a whole, but I’ve done a lot of inner healing to overcome that.

Listen to this blog post as a podcast - Episode 123: Lack of Joy? How to revive your passion - Find: A Joy To Be Me - On: iTunes, iHeartRadio, Stitcher or Spotify

There have been many times in my life that I have sunk into 'lack of joy' mode and lost my passion. I'm not alone in this. I know a lot of women struggle with this lack of joy, apathy, boredom, no motivation. This also shows up in...

Love Is The Best Medicine Of All

It’s 2019, a year to take radical personal responsibility for your life and healing yourself. The good news is, your body has the capacity to heal itself. And love is the best medicine of all.

Your mind, emotions and spirit have an enormous impact on your body. How you think and feel about yourself and the world, as well as how you experience spiritual connection makes all the difference in healing your body.

I feel like I could write a whole entire book on this, maybe I will … for now, I want to empower you towards self-love and healing yourself.

I know it may sound cliche to say that love is the best medicine of all -all we need is love and a million other songs come to mind, but it’s so true. Science now even shows it.

So I want to help you tap into this. Even if you are someone who grew up without adequate love or were unloved as a child, you can still re-write your story. You can give yourself the love you deserve first. You can heal your own childhood and...

The Hidden Blessing of Being in 'Adrenal Fatigue'

I heard about the term ‘adrenal fatigue’ in 2009 after reading one of the most popular books (at the time), on the subject. I realized that all the symptoms of adrenal fatigue described my current health and life to a TEE.

I did not get any functional testing done for years to come. I began to learn the ‘hard way' it was my reality.

When I finally did get my first Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) test back, I was both sobered and grateful. After having felt so out of control, emotionally volatile, constantly in a crash and burn mode, I was deeply upset to learn I was truly in burnout or 'adrenal exhaustion'. Even though, intuitively, I already knew.

Seeing my HTMA lab results made me face my health and life,  in a whole new way. Adrenal fatigue is a lifestyle condition, not just a health and nutrition condition. You can’t pull out of deep exhaustion (not to mention a level of trauma and PTSD) just by getting more sleep and eating clean.

Sorry, I wish...

How to Clear Your Clutter And Transform Your Life

In light of how much my physical body had gone through over the years, all the intense stress, I had to learn to rest a lot. So my body could heal and re-energize.

My body was basically telling me, by my constant crashes, to find time for rest and relaxation in order to improve my overall health. I was in it for the long game, no more quick fixes. Sustainable, lifestyle change became my new mission.

It really became necessary for me to take a reprieve from action and make space for contemplation. So, while I did just that I also began to do a lot of planning so I could clear all of my clutter; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Since I had plenty of down time to rest and recoup, planning became my new hobby.  I no longer wanted to live a life of reactivity. Or act as if life was just happening to me. Instead, I realized I have more control over how my life went than I previously thought.

Instead of rushing into action (aka: living in 'fight or flight mode'), it became...
